About Shiatsu and how it works
Shiatsu is a hands-on body work therapy that uses hand pressure, stretches, joint rotations, and acupressure points. It balances hard and soft touch, stillness and movement, depending on what is needed. It attends to the deep energetic quality of the body, and sees the existence of body-held energy flows (in a similar way to yoga, acupuncture and reflexology).
Shiatsu brings healing by connecting through touch with body-held energy flows in order to rejuvenate and allow new movement and change. Shiatsu touch is about connecting to the physical body and also the feelings and emotions held in the body.
Shiatsu works with the whole-person and helps to heal the parts of us where our energetic make-up has become distressed and disturbed, which can happen as a result of the habits and patterns we build up over our lives, experience of traumatic events, or the pain of unmet needs and desires. When this happens physical symptoms may arise which often go hand-in-hand with emotional difficulties such as feeling stressed, stuck in life, anxious, ashamed, or lonely and disconnected. When our body energy moves and flows in new ways this can open up new ways of being and acting in our lives.
The ‘transformational’ Shiatsu that I do is about giving touch that comes from a place of present awareness, intuition, sensitivity and empathy. This is crucial because it makes for a Shiatsu treatment that is in the moment, unique to individual needs and based on a relationship of trust and authenticity.
Shiatsu helps with muscular aches and pains, joint problems, digestive problems, headaches, fatigue, sleeping problems, stress, anxiety, loneliness, and depression.
